Mountain Bike Club League
For 2015 there are some changes to the Mountain bike club league. We are introducing a couple of new formats to test rider skills and abilities across the board to find a worthy league champion. Hopefully the new format will also help riders improve and carry their skills progression through to the open race circuit and improve their results.
First up, is the introduction of the “Enduro Lite” nights. Tagging onto the ever increasing popularity of the Gravity Enduro and Vitus First tracks format, each round will be held on 3-4 times stages which will be mostly downhill or flat. You still have to pedal but bike handling will be the winner here. Each round will use the same stages at the same Venue so riders can look to get familiar and look to improve on the course. It will also enable practise sessions outside of club league nights.
Another new event is the XC sprint TT. Essentially a night spent practising on a short XC based course, appx 10-12 minutes long for S1 Elite riders in good conditions. Each rider will then get one race run at the course. Handicapping is not employed for this round as endurance fitness will not play enough of a part in the result. The sprint TT should give riders an opportunity to practise a section of XC trail prior to a fastest time race run, just like a practise session on a real race day should.
As well as the traditional Multi lap short course race format used, we will also have some Long course formats to mix things up and keep courses interesting for participants. Handicapping will be employed for both short and long course XC racing based on your open race category. Unless the race judge says otherwise(!)
The final new event for 2015 is a combined bonus round; a hill climb race and a Downhill race. There will be plenty of rest in between. Practise your lines and route down the hill. Then ready yourself for 2 race runs, the fastest of which will be your recorded result.
The club run a league which is operated on a handicap basis with all abilities catered for.
If you’ve never raced before, don’t worry, just turn up with your usual riding gear and enter. The only way to improve is to get out there and do it! Though the most important tip of all is to keep smiling and have fun.
Courses are marked out to make the most of the excellent singletrack. A typical lap of the short course XC lasts for 8 to 12 minutes. Depending on your ability you will complete1 to 5 laps. Long course XC races will have less laps but generally the same length race time.
For the league we count your best 8 out of 12 Rounds, giving that you might be ill for a round or otherwise occupied. Also for Marshalling / timekeeping you will get 100Points and you can only get the points for Marshalling / timekeeping once.
The competitive season will conclude with the club championship race for members only, in September.
