First “Super Sunday” club ride well attended
Dromara CC held our first “Super Sunday” club run on 30th of March. Despite the clash with Mothers day and damp, grey conditions for the meet, there was an excellent turnout. A large group of riders from the regular Sunday leisure group were pleased to be joined by some of the club’s racing “elite” for the 10am start from Dromara.
In keeping with the social spirit of the Super Sunday ride, the group rode together for the first section of the route along the Dundrum line, with much banter and conversation amongst the cyclists. At the Ballynahinch road junction the group turned left for Spa, shortly after which the racing boys (with a couple of ambitious hangers on) decided to stretch their legs and sprint for the Spa 30’s, thus forming the faster “A” group for the ride. After Spa, both groups struck out towards Downpatrick, with the mornings gloom starting to break up into hazy sunshine to provide very pleasant conditions.
The routes took slightly different routes back to Dromara, with the “A” group cutting across country from Annacloy into Seaforde, and the “B” group dividing again to take different routes back to the finish to allow some to get back in time for family commitments for Mothers Day. The “A” group finished the run with the “traditional” stew-run sprint from Guiness crossroads back into the village. Also in keeping with tradition, a good number of both groups rounded off the morning’s activities with one or two “recovery drinks” in Square One!
It was great to see such a good turnout on a less than ideal day for our first big club ride of the season, and we look forward to seeing even more out on the next Super Sunday. Keep an eye out on the board and facebook for more details!
