Leisure Cycling
DCC Leisure Group
The leisure Group is the backbone of Dromara Cycling Club.
Every Sundays, weather permitting, there is a club “leisure” run, leaving from different locations, covering 30-50 miles early season, generally stopping for a coffee around half way. Building up to some of the many “Sportives” that are now on the calendar over the summer. These events provide a great opportunity to ride in larger groups and have the benefit of organised food and drink stops en-route, and support vehicles to help with mechanical problems.
If you are new to cycling, Dromara Club members are from a wide geographical area of County Down and Antrim. Dromara village itself is the gateway to the mournes hence we are an ideally situated Club for scenic rides and every hill you climb you get the benefit of free wheeling down the other side!
Our social aspects and coffee stops are as important as our speed however we like to average approximately 12 mile per hour. We do mid-week evening cycles when the time changes.
Local sportives/leisure events
Organised leisure rides, or Sportives, can be great fun, especially when ridden as part of a group of other club members. For 2016 we have selected a few of the best leisure events where we will encourage all members to come along and ride as a club (in groups of riders with similar ability), stay for food afterwards, etc. These events will be a good opportunity for less experienced riders to learn the benefits of riding in an organised and supportive group. Put them in your diary now and look out for details on the club message board nearer the time

Scotland “away day” on ferry
This leisure event takes advantage of the promotional fares for cyclists for just £10 return per person (subject to confirmation) you can travel across the “shuck” to bonnie Scotland for the day. The plan is to travel over on the 7.30 morning sailing and cycle a route of approx 50 plus miles around the Mull of Galloway, with plenty of coffee/food/beer stops en-route, before returning on the 7.30 evening sailing. This was a great day out last year and is highly recommended for all club members.
The provisional date for this year’s Scottish adventure is Sunday 12 June (subject to ferry availability).
Any suggestions?
As always, if you have any other ideas or suggestions for leisure or social events for this year, please feel free to suggest them. It may be a cliché, but remember “It’s your club”, so get involved, and get on your bike!!
