Coastal 2022 report
On Sunday 1 May the club hosted their annual Coastal Leisure Cycle starting and finishing at Dromara Village Football Club. Riders were able to sign on from 8 am and set off whenever they wanted to. Last riders were away by 9:30 am. We had 84 riders on the road. The weather was overcast with a rain cloud hanging over the east of County Down meant that the riders arrived at the tea stop in Strangford looking rather damp. Thankfully it was dry in Strangford and the Inverbrena Hall had its heating on. The riders were able to enjoy a large spread of sandwiches with traybakes supplied by the lovely team at Downpatrick Third World Charity washed down with a cup of tea/coffee.
Once ready, the riders set off for leg two of the leisure cycle, heading towards Downpatrick. Unfortunately with the lack of wind, the riders met the same rain cloud for another soaking. The route takes the riders over the Quoile bridge and at Scaddy Road those who wanted to do the 60 mile route took a left turn while those who wanted to do the 80 mile route went straight on.
Both routes eventually got the riders back to the football club where there was more tea / coffee and refreshments available.
Thanks to everyone for taking part and to the volunteers from the club for helping out. The club has donated £500 to the charity.
