Ard Moors Enduro race – Yorkshire
Saturday 15th September saw Paul McLean and Scott Nelson heading to the mainland to tackle the “ARD MOORS ENDURO”. Unfortunately with boat delays and bad planning we missed the registration on Saturday which meant we couldn’t practice and would have to race a blind race on Sunday.
Feeling rather frustrated we decided to have a beer and wait to see what the blind race will throw at us..
Race day was 6 stages, which where unbelievably scary down steep Yorkshire hills with a balanced mix of natural and man made terrain, rolling at high speed with tight switchbacks and exposed open mountain trails.
Not a lot of time separated the pair off us until it started to rain heading for stage 4, where an open field switchback had me sliding through the tape “twice” much to the amusement off the cheering crowd.
Heading to stage 5&6 the conditions had become a lot more fun, but missing the practice on 2 stages that were used for British DH races was going to be costly.
Overall Scott’s time was (18.51)which meant he nailed the end of season bragging rights with 46th in category and me (20.13) finishing 49th in category. It turned out to be a great weekends riding.
I can say it was the best race I’ve ever attended to date and would strongly recommend any enduro rider to do it.
