Sunshine and pavlova at Dromara Coastal
Dromara Cycling Club hosted their annual Coastal Leisure Cycle on Sunday 12 May 2019. This year’s charity was the Downpatrick Third World Group. We had just over 100 pre-entered riders but with the morning’s excellent weather, sunny with little wind, the event attracted around 80 extra riders on the day. With two routes to choose from (60 or 80 miles) this cycling event continues in its popularity attracting riders from all across Ireland.
After a quick safety brief, the riders rolled out of Dromara Village Football Club heading north into the village before turning right and heading for Seaforde. The riders then headed towards the scenic route around the County Down coast. With motorbike outriders, static marshals and a support van provided by the Bicycle Coffee Shop, the riders got to Strangford for the lunch stop. The lunch was provided in the church hall with a fantastic array of sandwiches and sweet treats freshly baked by the volunteers from the Third World Charity Group. “Pavlova to die for!”
The riders then headed off in smaller groups towards Downpatrick where they had the choice at the Quoile bridge of returning to Dromara via Ballynahinch or taking in more of the scenery around the County Down coast by heading north towards Castle Espie, Lisbane, Saintfield.
Back to the football club, the riders could enjoy a snack while taking in the sunshine and chatting about the day’s activities.
Many thanks to all those who turned up and to the many volunteers for helping to host the event. The event raised £915 for the charity.
