MTBers tackle Davagh Forest
Dromara CC mountain bikers were in action again at the weekend competing in Round 5 of the Irish National Points Series(NPS) held in Davagh Forest by Carn Wheelers, the event also doubling up as the final round of the Ulster XC Championships. Battle of the day was in Senior 3 where Dromara riders Gibson Chambers, Brian Wilson and Aidy Booth were neck and neck the whole way round the course. Nobody could have placed bets on this race with the positions changing every lap. Gibson Chambers finally came out the top Dromara rider beating Aidy Booth by a wheel length on the line with Brian Wilson just seconds behind after a hard fought battle. In the under 6 fun race Fiadh Kellett put in another great performance to finish the race in fine style, with big sister Aoife getting the first Dromara podium of the day finishing an excellent 3rd place in the Under 8 race. Rylee Broome finished not far behind with an excellent 5th place in the Under 8 race. In the Under 10 race Lexie Broome was the sole Dromara rider finishing an excellent 4th place. Well done to all the Dromara Fledgling riders who competed in the race. In the Senior 2 Women’s race Wannita Broome was in fine form finishing in 7th place, well done to her on a great performance.
In the U16 race Ben Wilson put in a hard shift to get a 3rd place podium finish, he jostled and battled hard for 2nd place just missing out by a few seconds, another great performance in a very competitive race.
In the top Senior 1 race Barry Kellett battled hard to finish in a superb 4th place, just 3 seconds away from a podium position, another lap in this race would have been very interesting indeed.
Last Tuesday night saw another MTB club league round take place. Barry Kellett again showed his prowess on the night taking 1st place, with Gibson Chambers 2nd and Paul Hamilton 3rd. Club league continues this Tuesday night with a tough hill climb followed by a steep descent on yet another new circuit.
