Mountain Bikers on tour
Dromara CC Mountain Bikers were in action at the weekend competing in several events throughout Ireland. Several members made the long journey to Tracton Woods in County Cork for the 4th round of the Irish National Point Series(NPS). Cars laden with bikes, tents, pots and pans made the long five hour journey south for a weekend of hard core racing against Ireland’s top XC riders. Result of the day must go to Barry Kellett who finished 3rd in the Senior 1 race against the best riders in Ireland. The Kellett fledglings didn’t disappoint either with Aoife finishing a fantastic 1st in the Under 8 female race and Fiadh producing a superb performance in the under 6 fun race, plenty of celebrating in the Kellett tent on Sunday night.
The Wilson family were also in action at the weekend with Ben having his best race of the year to finish a superb 3rd place in the Under 16 race, he was beaten by an English rider who finished first in the last round of the British Championships. Brian was also in action in the Senior 3 race, he gained some valuable cyclocross training after having to run back to the pits to change a flat wheel. He still finished an excellent 13th place despite the unplanned stop.
In other events our two top Enduro riders were both in action at the weekend. Paul McClean competed in the Vitus Firsts Tracks Enduro Cup round 3 held in Rostrevor. Paul was riding that hard he ended up breaking some bike parts, despite his mechanicals he still managed to finish 31st in his race category.
Peter Davison has gone international and topped all his appearances this year with two fine race results on American soil. He competed last weekend in the Tennessee Enduro EWS in Windrock Bike Park, finishing 4th place in the U21. He also competed in the South Eastern Downhill Series in Beech Mountain, North Carolina and finished a superb 2nd place in the Enduro category. Some fine results for Peter who has now gained some very credible international race results, no sitting on the beach soaking up sun rays for this man.
Back on home soil the MTB club league continues to run on Tuesday nights. Last week’s result saw Brian Wilson take 1st place with Ben Wilson in 2nd place and Gibson Chambers in 3rd place. The next chapter continues this week with yet a different XC lap to test all the skill levels.
