Dromara Host the best MTBers at Tollymore for the Ulster XC rnd 2
Dromara CC hosted round one of the Irish cross-country National Points Series(NPS) at Tollymore Forest park on Sunday 29th April, the event also doubling up as round two of the Ulster XC series. Dromara off road representative and chief organiser Gibson Chambers had left no stone unturned in organising a great event. The 4 mile lap of the Tollymore course included an array of features including “the chute”, “the bomb hole” and fast flowing technical single track. With approximately two hundred and fifty riders entered from as far away as Killarney the course proved to be a big hit among all riders.
The race itself, first up was the under six fun race.
Blood, sweat and tears were the order of the day, the young Dromara fledglings consisting of George Chambers, Alfie Booth, Anna Armstrong, Hugh Hetherington, Riley Broome and Fiadh Kellett did not disappoint. No prizes or official positions in this race just a bag of goodies and some fun, the mummies and daddies will no doubt be able to give a full account of the race and who finished where.
On to the under eights race and Aoife Kellett produced the first podium of the day with an excellent 2nd place in the female race, Eva Cowan also producing a good performance to finish the race. Alexander Chambers had a great run in the male race with a 9th place finish on the Team Sky bicycle, Josh Miniss putting in a good performance also finishing close behind.
The under 10 race produced another podium finish with James Armstrong finishing an excellent third in the Under 10 male race, Lexie Broome just missed out on a podium spot in the female race finishing an excellent 4th place.
The under 16 race had our very own Ben Wilson on the podium again, finishing an excellent 3rd place in a hard fought race, Ben well used to stepping up on the podium these days.
The club can now rest easy after hosting a great event, all riders now looking forward to the start of the much anticipated MTB club league series.
