MTBers shining this weekend
Dromara CC mountain bikers Ben Wilson and Peter Davison were in action at the weekend competing in XC and Enduro events. First up was Ben Wilson competing in the 2nd round of the British XC Championships held at Dalby Forest in Yorkshire. Ben was part of the Cycling Ulster team who travelled to Dalby to compete in the U16 event. Ben had a great start in his race but unfortunately fell back down the field due to a few mechanical issues. Ben is now a regular at the British XC Championship races, his story for the year won’t end here, there will be more to come from this young man. Ben can also take some solace from his result at the first round of the Vitus First Tracks Enduro Cup held in Castlewellan, he finished on the podium with an excellent result of 2nd place, only three seconds behind the current Irish Downhill Champion. Also in action, this weekend was Peter Davison who competed in the first round of the Irish Gravity Enduro series at Ballinastoe Woods in Wicklow. Peter is now competing with the big guns and finished an excellent 4th place in the Mens Pro event, no mean feat for the Saintfield rider. Peter also had an excellent finish of 4th place in the Mens U21 at the Vitus First Tracks Enduro Cup in Castlewellan. The summer is looking bright for both of these young gun Dromara MTB riders, well done to both. On the local scene congratulations to Davy Broome who finished 1st in Senior 2 at the first Ulster XC race of the season in Craigavon. Davy has been “taking it easy” this year and only managed to beat his 2nd place opponent by a whole minute. Congratulations also to Aoife Kellett(U8) and James Armstrong(U10) who both finished 3rd in their respective races. Lexie Broome put in a great performance in the U10’s, in the U6’s Anna Armstrong made her race debut with a strong performance alongside Fiadh Kellett, the competition doesn’t get any less at this fledgeling age. In the U16 Fraser Harrower also put in a good performance in muddy conditions.
The club is now looking forward to the first round of the cross country National Points Series(NPS) which they host on Sunday 29th April at Tollymore Forest Park. As always the club would appreciate any volunteers who can give up some time on Sunday to help with the running of the event. Anyone who wishes to volunteer please contact Gibson Chambers(gibson@dromaracc.co.uk) or indeed any Dromara CC club member or stick your name in the forum.
