Calvert takes the win at Flatfields
They tell me its Summer in Northern Ireland and there should be BBq’s lit and ‘taps aff’, but alas the reality is some what different. The rain started on Thursday and didn’t look like it was going to stop but Dromore CC clearly have quality contacts and able to organise the rain to stop just before the start of the race.
With Dromore CC looking after the race they had super marshals that covered the whole route in pretty poor conditions so many thanks to all who helped out.
The race would see two groups set off with a 6min gap between them. As always the first lap is a mass panic as everyone took off at speed to the first corner. When things finally settled down the group started to work well taking 10min 40sec a lap. The scratch group managed to acquire a new member in Davy Henderson who looked delighted. It didnt take long for the scratch group to split with Nathan charging up the hill each lap.
With the laps running out group 1 looked like it would go down to the last push up the hill and it was Ryan Calvert would prove that he hasnt lost any of his kick with a great effort to come over the line first with time to catch his breath and get his hands in the air. The battle for the remaining podium spots would see Davy Broome just run out of steam as Kevin Walker would time his sprint to perfection to snatch the second spot.
All in all a great race which finished with everyone diving to the cars as the rain came back with a vengeance. As stated above many many thanks to all the Dromore CC marshals who looked after all the riders and super efforts from all who took to the start line on a challenging night.
