September arrives to tell us that summer is over and winter is coming which means the Club League must come to an end. Tradition dictates that the final round of the club league is Begney Hill Climb. It is a mere quarter mile but she is hard to read and harder to tackle – it starts hard then leads you into a false sense of security but easing off a bit before the final kick to finish you off.
To add a little bit of spice the Overall Club League was up for grabs with Jack needing to win to make sure Aaron would have to produce on a tough climb.
A total of 19 riders appeared at the start line ready to tackle Begney and it was our guest Lindsay Watson who demolished the record to complete the climb in 52.5 secs (I can’t see that being beaten for some time). The bragging rights for top Dromara CC rider was taken by Nathan Mullan who took second fastest in 57 secs followed closely by Jack Ferguson in 59 secs. The surprise package of the night was Robert McDonald who completed the course in 61secs proving he is getting stronger and one to watch for next season.
A great effort from the two ladies tonight as the 2 up partners went head to head with Lisa taking it ahead of Emma. Major kudos for giving this a go.
With Jack not taking the top spot and Aaron completing the course meant the the NEW CLUB LEAGUE CHAMP is Aaron Watson. Many congratulations Aaron although this can be a poisoned chalice as once you gain the heights of Club Champion all other goals might seem just not worth it and retirement beckons – lets hope not ;-).
Many thanks to Gary Bailie and Chris Magowan for Bike Holding/Advice/Abuse & Time Keeping at the bottom with thanks also to Martin Grimley who did the time keeping at the top and organised the biscuits and coffee at the end. Hopefully you have had a very enjoyable Club League this year and are now ready for the Cyclocross Season.
Resutls for the Hill climb are below as is the final Club League table. Photos can be found here(facebook) or here(flickr)
