Sunday saw the Dromara CC MTB Championships take place with former winner Aidy Booth hoping to keep hold of the trophy for another year. At the start line Barry Kellett kept the page of handicaps close to his chest as all the best excuses were rolled out. You will have no idea the injuries that clear up when the start whistle goes.
The course is not for the feint hearted and tests all those MTB skills that should be finely honed by now. This year the field was filled with Ulster XC medal winners as well as soon to be Ulster S3 champs so there would be no looking over your shoulder just head down and cycle hard. As the laps counted down Gibson Chambers managed to hang on to become the MTB club champion 2016 with Derek Minis, Richard Cowan and Peter Davison pushing the big fella all the way. On the last corner it was Peter who made the catch and sprinted away for second with Richard in third. Derek with a brave performance came in 4th with seconds splitting the 3.
Many thanks to our very professional time keeper Mrs Kellett for showing her skills of multi tasking by taking the times and running a creche all at the same time. With the Gibson still milking his victory thoughts go to the MTB Day trip on the 17h Sept – if you want to go and get top MTB coaching from Champion Gibson then make sure to put your name forward on the message board. Finally many thanks to Barry Kellett for running the MTB Championship race and series this year – See you next year.
