With the weather Gods playing havoc it was lucky that we managed to get a break from the rain to fit in a much loved Crossgar Road TT. The temperature was up and the rain away then the only issue seemed to be the wind, well when I say it was an issue the opening 5 miles were a delight. In fact some people thought they were going to smash the time trial record when they went sub 12mins to the turn. Alas once you turned the realisation that the record wasn’t going to be smashed as “a block head wind” and a few tight drags put paid to that.
First up many thanks to the timekeepers David D and Ronnie S who looked suitably pleased that they had chosen the right role for the night rather than riding. A top job done by the marshals at the turn Paul G, Robert McD and David H and to the marshals out on the course – Stephen W and Raymund M. Although it is a twisty busy road it certainly felt super safe at the turn so kudos to all.

The current record holder Gavin M headed off looking to hold onto to his record but lady luck ran out on him as a puncture stopped any chance of that. Even though Crossgar Road is hardly a perfect TT course it still attracted a few guest appearances although young Tim Beattie (TVR) saw the course and was meant to take part but “couldn’t find his wee ring” ?!? – is that an acceptable excuse?
Matthew A may have been told to stay off the bike after trying to make his face beautiful by using a tarmac road! but with a TT in the bag last night he could resist the opportunity to get right back at it with another session – good to see him back on the bike although he is still refusing to put those stabilizers on.
A certain young man has been out testing his skills on the Belgium roads for the past few weeks and it was good to see him back showing what he has learnt. Clearly he hasn’t lost his speed as he came in as the fastest rider of the night and new course record of 23:52. Matthew A who will tell anyone who will listen that he is unfit and eaten too many waffles popped up with the 2nd quickest time in 25:15 and Simon Keery of VC Iveagh completed the top 3 with a time of 25:47.
Birthday Girl Emma J knows how to celebrate with a great effort over a very tough course in preparation for Dundrum line TT next week. Another Birthday to celebrate is Graham McConnell who is might still be claiming to be 21 but is sure producing times a 21 year old would be proud of.
The full results are below as is the handicap results. I will get the overall club league table updated after we needed to make a few corrections. The photos can be found here and here if you cant see them on facebook.
This weekend will the see Dromara CC Hilly take to the roads on Sunday so get your entry in or give Graham B a shout if you can help out.
