Where does the time go when the sun is high in the sky and the wind is light? It seems like yesterday we were racing the Downpatrick Road but this time we got to start from Annacloy with the turn at the Ballynahinch end. The good news is that we had plenty of places to park but the turn was challenging for the marshals. I heard a few ideas about changing the turn to try and make it safer with maybe moving the start further up the road. If you have any ideas of better courses or a better modification then send them through.
This leads me on to the many thanks to the timekeepers – David H, David B and Trevor B and loads of thanks to the marshals – Linda F and Roisin McI, Kevin W, Gary G, John S, Michael M, Brett A & John W. As I said at the start the word on the street was that the turn was a challenge so full kudos to them.

With the sun out the riders flocked to attack this course. Nathan Mullan has been a man in form and with Chris away for a weekend of track cycling it left Brendan, Gavin and Ronnie to try and keep him honest. Nathan produced a phenomenal time of 22:50 on a course that would hardly be called flat. Brendan powered through the course to take the second quickest of the night with a 23:31 leaving Gavin taking third quickest with 23:52. In the Juniors Matthew Gibson looked like a man glad to be back on the bike and coming back into form to beat Jack and Aaron on the night. The ladies race saw Emma J produce an excellent time trial to beat Wannita and Therese – clearly the secret training seems to be paying off. Ted McKibbon completed what must be one of our hardest TT’s on the hand cycle and young Matthew Douglas popping a wee sub 35min TT is one to watch for the future.
The ride of the night is always hard to call but this person will probably be moving into a coaching role soon or writing a book on how to improve your TT time by “claiming” never having been on the bike. Neil Currie looked back to his best as he posted a 26:09 time backed by a holiday and plenty of rest so he says. Clearly the secret training must be paying off as he gears up for next weeks race.
Photos from the night can be found here
Finally the results are below and after the weekend there will be a special report showing the handicap results from the previous TT’s and a full updated league table after the industrious excel nerds have fine tuned the system. Who is winning? who has been holding back? exciting exciting
