This week after a few challenges we had to use our back up course on the Ballinderry Road rather than the Strangford Road. For the marshals that had scheduled to be at Strangford Road and couldn’t make it to Ballinderry Road don’t feel bad as it was a very late in the day change and we still love you for volunteering. The good news is that a few people stepped up to cover us so many more thanks for that – with it being a brand new course we are still tinkering on how many marshals are needed and where they should be placed so if you have any feedback then email committee@dromaracc.co.uk.
It wasn’t too long ago when only the very few had disc wheels, full TT bikes and Skin suits but times have clearly changed. As I took my bike out of the car I realised it wasnt a TT bike, it didnt have a disc wheel, aero bars and no skin suit…..in fact i hadnt even shaved my legs. It felt like I had brought a knife to a gun fight – but sure are we not all training for cross??

This week we had all female timing squad with a professional tea/coffee & biscuit distribution unit. Lisa who was course designer was looking after the timing with Theresa and Martin looked after the bike holding. The course was flat(for a DCC course anyway) and the wind was always in your favour providing you had a TT bike and fast legs. Gavin didn’t want to be first to go and made some poor excuse about a front wheel puncture and stood holding a wheel in the air until the support team arrived (until brother Chris finished should I say). Brendan had taken the TT so seriously he had to get a more aero hair cut which clearly worked as he posted the fastest time of the night at 23:01 and only to be beaten by one of our visitors Rodney Stewart with an awesome time of 22:31.

In the battle behind a mere 19 seconds separated 2nd from 5th with Chris asking the important questions – Did I beat Gavin? The answer was yes as he took 2nd quickest DCC rider followed by young Matthew Armstrong who is going from strength to strength. The other two juniors are battling it out these days as well with both Aaron and Jack posting sub 25min times.
The fastest lady of the night was the fast improving Emma Johnson who set the ladies record for this course with the other battles across the field coming down to seconds rather than minutes. The Club League Update will be posted next week after the road race. Many Many Thanks to the marshals at the bridge – Marek and James B and to the marshals at the turn – Barry K and Brett A and not forgetting Lisa and Theresa B for sorting the timing and Martin G and team for the tea and biscuits. A final shout out to Paul Gick who took time out to mark the course perfectly.
The results are below and the photos can be seen on facebook or flickr.
