Rnd 4 proves having a TT bike will not guarantee a win

It looks like Summer has certainly arrived with temperatures getting up to the heights of 17 degrees, in fact some said that this weekend winter is coming!!. I think we have seen enough rain and cold temperatures for quite sometime and with the Club League slowly getting into the full swing everyone headed to the Downpatrick road. First off many thanks to Ballynahinch Football Club for allowing us to use their car park and also to all the marshals who made themselves available. It isn’t an easy job to marshal and given the choice I am sure everyone would rather take part than marshal. On a very busy road Gareth Kirkwood, Stephen Wallace and Gavin Magowan were looking after the turn with the top professionalism that we expect. At the start Johny Ward took the job of bike holder for the night with Roisin in charge of timekeeping what could possibly go wrong. Due to a bit of confusion on who was marking the course the turn was a little bit early making this a 9.8mile TT rather than a 10mile TT.

With all the new TT equipment on show there was great expectation for Pb’s and record smashing times and I bet everyone was excited with their time when they crossed the line. In fact some feeling vindicated regarding their winter training plan had paid of dividends just as predicted. There must be a lesson in there somewhere about having no comment until the official results have been published.

To win a TT you need a TT bike that cuts through the wind like a knife, a skin suit so good the wind doesn’t even know you are cutting through it and finally a high powered set of legs. Which of these are most important will no doubt be debated until the sun goes down but our guest Lindsey Watson appeared on just a road bike and produced a sensational time of 22:36. The next fastest of the night was Matthew Armstrong who has saved his pennies for a beautiful TT bike and clearly got his money’s worth with a 23:10. Nathan Mullan and Chris Magowan were breathing down his next with only 26 and 29 seconds behind respectively. It was great to see the ladies out producing excellent times with Roisin Wilson taking the honours with a time of 29:29 with Wannita Broome and Emma Johnson not too far behind.

With the TT over everyone headed for a cuppa and a few biscuits. Many stories of what could have been and how still no one was training. Next week will see us head to the Flatfield Road Race so plenty of marshals required for that. If you haven’t filled in the marshal form by now please please do so. It isn’t set in stone and you change your mind but we really need everyone to put their name down.
Speaking of marshals this weekend is a busy one with DCC running the Tollymore XC MTB race which starts at 9:30 and runs until 4pm. If you can help even for an hour between those times please let me know(richard@dromaracc.co.uk). The other event is the Third World Sportive which is always well represented – we don’t need to provide marshals for this event but if you are doing it could you fire me a few words through on how it went for you.
Did someone mention handicaps or results or photos?? Handicaps are currently being crunched in our super computer to take everything into consideration – expect more info next week. Photos can be found here. Results are below:
