It was the first round of the CRC Irish NPS XC at the weekend and several Dromara CC Mountain Bikers made the journey to Sligo to test their skills against the best XC riders. First up to race was young Ben Wilson who raced in the Boys Under 14’s category which proved a very tough category leading to a very close finish. Ben finished in 4th place which really doesn’t tell the whole story as after a poor first lap he found himself gapped from the top 3 but Ben dug deep and put in an awesome last lap to only just miss out on the podium by 11 seconds. No doubt he will be back to claim his podium at the next round.
Peter Davison has been collecting podiums all over the place and this round was to see him add to that collection with a 3rd place in the Junior section. This Junior section contains some very quick riders with David Conroy taking the first place by quite some way. This looks like it will be a very tough category to get a podium in never mind a win so kudos to Peter for mixing it with that calibre of rider.

In the S3 Race Brian Wilson and Davy Broome lined up to tackle this very technical course. Davy has come out of winter training with a real desire to go faster and faster on his Mountain Bike and this has led to him even giving young Kellett a run for his money. Davy produced an awesome performance as he battled with David McKee from Maryland Wheelers. The positions changed through out the race but Davy made a final big push for the line to take the victory – the next thing up for Davy is to work on the podium smile. Ben’s mechanic……I mean Brian Wilson has been secretly training away and it was no surprise that he battled his way up to 16th in the S3 with another great ride.In the S3 womens race Andra Ungureanu from PLUSHmtb but a regular at the MTB Club league had a great result grabbing third place. Well done all.
