Cyclocross Season Preview
Here we go folks, cyclocross season 2015-2016 is about to explode this Sunday coming at Lurgan Park. A fast lung busting course where the main goal is to achieve a half decent finish to get gridded for the next round and work from there. Who have we representing the club this year in the fastest growing racing discipline going?
Lisa Millar
The Cyclocross queen of Dromara CC. A steady summer of Turbo Training and occasional Foray into the Murky world of XC should see some good returns for our leading Elite lady. Hopefully she has also been practising her Pit drills after this unfortunate incident from the 2014-2015 season.
Richard Cowan
Looking to recapture the glory of an early season A4 race win, Redgie returns to his roots and has been seen topping strava club leader boards as well as turning club runs into one big race as he fine tunes his top end, despite “the racing being over now”. The racing is only about to start. One of the clubs big players in the “A” race team.
Martin Grimley
Can he resist helping out… Will the race organisers be able to resist calling on Mr Organiser himself when things go a bit pear shaped at 11am on a Sunday morning… Lets hope so. Smashed a PB (running!) 5km time not so long ago, so is keen for immense volumes of mud and a fair bit of running.
Graham Smyth
Preparations haven’t gone so well for Graham so far. Thankfully the Kinning GP race should have ironed out all his mechanical problems well before the main start of the season. #sackthemechanic
Paul Mawhirt
Anyone remember this guy? A recent appearance at the Kinning GP and the end of season MTB day out have rekindled the fire in the evergreen Mawhirt. The passion has reignited. Rumours abound of an immediate upgrade to the “A” race. Expect a steady start before hitting form for our home round at Moira in November.
Brian Wilson
After A long hard season of XC-Cyclocross for our Brian, he is more than ready for proper-cross. He can’t remember what rocks or roots look like, but gets very excited at the sight of long stretches of open grass.
Adrian Booth
Our newly crowned club MTB Champion has had a relatively quiet year on the bike running up to this season. Changing nappies and making bottles has been more like it for new Daddy Booth. Luckily for him, CX is the ultimate time saver for Daddies who want to race. Expect Jaffa cakes, mugs of tea and long chats about going out and doing some jumps.
John Shanks
He’s still building the house. He should have built up a second CX bike instead. With the amount of boards and variable terrain around the building site though, he should have his dismounts and cornering spot on for the season opener.
Derek Graham
Some top performances from Derek last year in the B race. A definite dark horse for this season providing he manages to avoid the unfortunate mechanicals suffered at key points last year.
Gibson Chambers
“This is gonna me mighty”
“Look at the state of Bryce”
Mike Barton
The race Commissaire on wheels. Do not even think about pulling a fly one with this man about. You will regret your transgressions!
Davy Broome
Dromara’s up and coming XC Expert is about to get a full on taste of what XC would be like if there were no downhills. After winning the club offroad league and beating a pile of people in a road TT with a flat tyre, I am sure he will cope.
Peter Davison
Racing Juniors, we have Enduro Pete. Expect a refusal to dismount his bike, wheelies, bunny hops, endos and probably a smile as well unless I beat him.
John McGuigan
Here’s another “Remember this guy?”. I am expecting training to commence for John any time soon. Preferably in the month of September.
Zak Hanna
After cementing his place as Club King of the Hill recently, Zak is up for a proper go at more proper racing. Another candidate for pushing the “A” race team into overdrive.
Graham Beckett
Some super TT performances towards the end of the year for big Graham, should translate into stellar CX performances. Aerodynamics are a lot less important at 12mph rather than 22mph.
Jackie Wade
Chipped in with some appearances last year and is surely Keen to put the Cornmill affair behind her.
Nathan Mullan
You heard it here first, hot off the press, racing for 30’s and 2hour cafe stops are not going to cut it this winter for Nathan. He’s gonna do some proper racing!
Barry Kellett
Haven’t raced all year. Hardly been out on the bike. Too much cake has been consumed.
Can’t wait for it to start. See you on the start line.
