CL Rnd 22 – not quite how it was planned but a great night out
So an Aussie Pursuit you say or was it a 3 Up……….eh……..ok it was a 2 Up. Now this year we have been dotting i’s and crossing t’s regarding the Club League which means that Paul G and Chris M have been working tirelessly to get safety assessments done on a large number of courses as well as working out who wants to receive them. This year the police received the details so that they could make a judgement about safety for ourselves and other road users. The castlewellan road has had quite a few races/TT’s on it this year from a range of clubs and my understanding is that a few car drivers are not too impressed. I dont believe this swayed the PSNI’s decision on this but they were concerned about large groups of cyclists racing on what is a very busy road. Naturally this decision came late and many phone calls later we could run a 3 Up. Apologies for the late changes but what can you do.
We finally decided on a 2 up TT from Banbridge to the Katesbridge straight. 11.1 miles (ish!).
Many thanks to Marty McAnulty for timekeeping, the Matthews for just being there and looking cool (!), the marshals at McCoy’s garage – Andrew F, Colin McG and Graham McC, the marshals at the turn – Deek, Gary and Noel G.
We got away with a dry and bright evening thankfully avoiding the heavy rain showers that were coming across the country all day.
