MTB & Road Club Leagues plus Newry 3 Day
It has been quite a week of cycling starting with the Road Club League with the 10mile individual TT at the Lurgan road, this was followed the next night by the MTB Club League XC Sprint format (Work on your ability to memorise a race lap with limited practise and then smash it in a race run) and if that wasnt enough the Newry 3 day started on Friday night with the DCC boys flying the flag.
Lets start with the Road Club League Rnd 14:
A lovely warm evening on the Lurgan Road. As usual there was little wind at the start/finish but I have been lead to believe that it was windy out on the course.
Many thanks to Ronnie and Gary G for doing the timekeeping with Noel G as marshal at the start area and thanks to Graham B for doing head marshal and sorting out the marshals at the turn. Thanks to Emma J, Davy F, Graham S and Ivan B. Gavin M was doing photos and Stevie W was assisting as well.
A big turn out of visitors this week with some impressive times as well. Rumours that BVK had quit golf were confirmed when he arrived at the start line with a new lid to cut through the wind. And we can confirm that it did indeed to some cutting with BVK taking the fastest DCC time of the night at 23:44. The ladies of DCC certainly produced a very close race with Lisa M pipping Keri P by just 6 seconds.
Handicaps taken into account leaves us with:
The MTB Club League took part on the Friday Night
Feel the burn! I am told its easy to learn a course and smash it providing you have properly warmed up with a 10mile TT in the legs from the night before. BVK proving that he can still produce the goods on a MTB and hasnt converted to a full roadie just yet. Times below:

Finally the Newry 3 Day – the report below is from Gavin M:
Many thanks to the team of Ronnie, Chris, Davy, Nathan and myself for a hard riding weekend. Naturally things dont always go to plan with the aim to win the first stage but we had to use up 3 riders to pull back the breaks on the Friday stage before we hit the climbs and the 3 laps of Warrenpoint was flat out with 50 odd riders in a bunch all trying to go through a final corner that only had room for 1….and we got 4th ……stage 2 and 3 were hard and also today was flat out with 72 miles @ 24.8 average taking in the climbs of the 7 sisters , Horseshoe and Rathfriland twice……the boys all rode well unfortunately Nathan broke a spoke and had to retire……with GC too far away we aimed for a stage win to salvage something……. The break was away with some of the strongest riders of Gary Crory and Jake Gray in it …..the break going out to over 1 min at one stage…….Chris told me to sit in and wait and he went on the front …..lining out the bunch for mile after mile……at one stage the break was down to 20 sec but with Des Woods getting across to the break it was too much to do and it started creeping away again so it wasn’t to be……have to make a special mention about Davy Dixon…..first 3 day and only up to A3 and rode like a pro……….broke a wheel on yesterday’s stage took him out of GC but he finished in the bunch today on the hardest stage of the weekend …..an epic ride from our new member of the race team and just a glimpse of what the boys can do when the push themselves.
And also before I forget the most important member of the team Nathans dad Michael Mullen ……….drove the team car all weekend ……….team mechanic, Number Pinner, feed station…..this man does it all ….many thanks
Also big thanks for all the Dcc members that were on the road to give us a bit of support it was much appreciated.
My best memory of the weekend is a cyclist that we met as the bunch was at full attack in the crosswinds …… he was cycling the opposite way to us………knees sticking out doing a vey leisurely pace with a big grin on his face, and all I could think was ” that looks like fun” 🙂
