16mile TT proves a close affair in more ways than one
The summer is clearly over or did the plants just need watering? Either way it was raining during the day and the fair weather rider should have been concerned. Thankfully there are no fair weather riders in Dromara CC so they brought their bikes ready for a good old dose of suffering.
With an attitude like that the weather was kind enough to create a dry spell to get the TT over and done with. This week the big hitters were in town with Brendan Duff back at the start line causing much debate as to who would take the quickest time of the night. This wasnt the only battle going on as the TT’s have become a very competitive place all the way down the field.
Let us start with wishing Aaron Watson a happy birthday even though he didnt bring any cake with him – a true pro – birthday or no birthday if a TT is on he will be there.
And next the obstacle that a few riders had to manoeuvre around – for me I barely saw it (must really look up more often) and John Shanks wasn’t available to give me a deep explanation of age, weight or breed but I thought it started off being a calf and by the last person I spoke to it had turned into a raging bull. Thankfully no rider or animal was hurt in the running of this TT.
Now back to the results and the fastest of the night was……..Gavin Magowan by a mere handful of seconds from Brendan Duff. 37mins dead for Gavin and 37:05 for Brendan – TT’s can be so cruel. To complete the podium Chris Magowan in a time of 37:57 took third with Conor Rice and Trevor Wright both going sub 40mins.
The next battle saw 5 riders finish with in 20 odd secs of each other with Matthew Gibson looking the most smug. Lisa Millar produced an awesome time proving that her last 16m TT wasnt a one hit wonder. The ride of the night goes to a very pleased looking Colin McGready who finished in 46:24 producing a leaps and bounds improvement on his past times.
Many thanks to the timekeepers Zak and Ronnie with bike holder Stephen W and assistant marshal Eddie D.
At the crossroads we had Ivan B + Matthew A’s dad Brett.
At the turn it was Barry K, Michael C and Ruth B.
Many thanks to you all for giving up your time for the good of the club. However with Ronnie appearing in his white baseball cap quite a few weeks ago in an attempt to get best turned out Marshal Stevie Wallace showed that when you’ve got it then you’ve got it by doing the bike holder job with some very swanky shoes on.
We cannot forget Martin who took on Refreshment provider for the night.
Got a few videos of Gareth Woodall and Marcus Magowan crossing the finish line with help from Eddie D.

I’ll be off next week so I may have a guest reporter organised for the Lurgan TT.
