The Duff man wins TT & Broome shows the mtbers how to tame the conditions.
After winter made a come back this week there was much concern that Thursday night would be a wash out. The good news for the Testers was the small window of clear weather that allowed them to complete the Spa course in the dry. However the MTBers didn’t have that luck on Friday night for their Enduro Lite course.
First up was the time trial at Spa on Thursday night which saw some serious aero cyclists head to the start line. Brendan Duff was keeping the magowans on their toes last year and arrived with the skinsuit, aero helmet and super fast TT bike. Brendan was looking confident at the start until he thought he saw a mirage……in fact he didnt believe the rumours that have been circulating around the club. Can it be true that BVK has a TT bike and cut out a golf ball to use as a helmet. I can only think this inspired Brendan to produce a sub 24min time (6th quickest DCC time ever for that course) to take the quickest time of the night with Barry producing a pb for the course at 24:38.
The phoenix fraternity had arrived to have a go at this course, Aaron McGrady and Cathal Smyth proved that you dont need a TT bike to produce a great time as they took 2nd 3rd quickest time of the night on their road bike.
The junior DCC members are certainly going to push each other all the way – having spoken to Matthew A who told me a sad story about his tired/tight legs having taken second place at the west down wheelers race on Tuesday, I remembered a wise man told me “tight legs are fast legs” and that proved to be correct as Matthew produced a great time of 25:30.
Well done to the other junior riders Jack and Aaron and to the Douglas father and son team. Great to see Ted out again. It would be interesting to have all our riders try to do a 10 mile TT using just their arms!
Many thanks to the timekeepers Graham S, Ronnie S and Emma (thumbs up) J.
Also thanks to the marshals at the turn, Raymund M, Robert McD and David D and to the photographers, Gavin and Graham B.
Club League could be a close affair. As expected, especially listening to the grunting off the line, the Duff man is out to smash his average from last year. Jack is still up there. The two Matthews have improved. Barry’s TT bike is improving his 10 mile TT times, Kevin has benefitted from the Mallorca training camp, Trevor’s times are going well and even Paul G is improving on his times from last year!

On Friday night saw the hardy MTBers show that skin is waterproof as there was a great turn out tonight for the clubs first ever Enduro round in the club league.
Very slippery testing conditions out on the course tonight, but at least it had stopped raining by the time we were leaving
Thanks to all the guys for turning out on a night like that.
Dave Broome and Peter Davison battling it out for top spot with Davy having to run the final yards of stage 1 with a puncture and still having a healthy gap at the end of the night. Who needs dropper posts and rear suspension, eh?!
Good result for Ben, beating the aul fella convincingly.
Well done to Graham, riding the trails blind, in those conditions. Sure to improve with Bryce when they get more familiar with them.
