Club League Round 4, #Aero, #fast, #sunnyasmajorca, #barelegs
So as everyone knows the pro’s of the club have headed to their summer training camp in Majorca. I am told the weather over there is quite nice but it just doesn’t compare to Northern Ireland as the sun split the tree’s and the bare legs were on show.
This is the first individual TT in the club league but some riders have been sneaking about and doing a few TT’s that other clubs are running. Just to let you know we are watching, always watching…..
The night started with acquiring a marshal or two and thankfully Ronnie, Ivan, Bernie, Matthew A(clearly recovering from the TT he did on Tuesday night ;-)), young Gibson, Gary G & some lad named Ryan helped out. As I always say you cannot run TT/race without marshals so many many thanks.
It was wonderful to see Ted McKibbin back out with the club. Ted, for those of you who don’t know, was involved in an accident during a bike race in 2013 which left him paralysed. This didn’t stop him though. He has been beavering away on the hand cycle and has taken part in a couple of other events. He let me know in advance that he would turn up tonight and told me that he would take about an hour and a half to do the route. Naturally, I didn’t believe him because I knew he wouldn’t be taking part if he could only do that time. I was right. He was back within the hour. Well done that man! Trooper!
First off on the night was Gavin Magowan who produced the ride of the night and was only few seconds off his own course record with a time of 23:34, the next dromara rider home was Conor Rice just missing out on breaking the 25min barrier by 8 secs and he was closely followed by David Dickson who showed you can do two TT’s in a week. Our guest riders of the week saw Fritz put in a storming ride of 23:55 to be second on the night with Gavin Oakes a mere 3 seconds back to complete the podium.
There were 33 riders who came to test themselves tonight and quite a few juniors. Jack Ferguson took the honors as fastest junior in a time of 28:36 with Aaron Watson second junior in a time of 29:19 although he claims he can go faster. I don’t doubt it – better never stops and all that.
So with Martin handing out the tea and biscuits, the night came to a close with the next job of figuring out the handicaps. Many thanks to the football club for letting us park our cars there and to the farmer who let me park my car on site. Many thanks also to the parents who are coming along, wearing the hi-viz vests and helping to keep the riders safe. PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR REAR LIGHT for next week. Next week is FlatField Road Race so plenty of marshals required for that one. For the MTBers the MTB Club League next round is Friday(tonight). BVK is working out the handicaps for a very exciting course.
