Hill Climb Season Begins at the Grove Road
Just incase you didnt know or hadnt been told the summer is over and the road racing season is once again behind us. For some the season has ended too soon and for others the season couldnt end quick enough. The good news is that it isnt winter training yet and hill climbing season has begun at DCC.
The first of the 3 Hill Climbs is the Grove Road which is a new course meaning there will be a course record. However without timekeepers there would be no race and no record in fact…. thankfully we only have the best timekeepers at DCC with Kevin W and Martin. Great job lads.
On a beautiful calm night we had 20 riders ready to test themselves against this hill climb and everyone gave their all from the oldest to the youngest.
At the start the advice was being given out regarding how best to do this hill climb but everyone stuck with Rule 20
These are:
- If your quads start to burn, shift forward to use your hamstrings and calves, or
- If your calves or hamstrings start to burn, shift back to use your quads, or
- If you feel wimpy and weak, meditate on Rule #5 and train more!
The first three on the night were separated by less than half a second with Nathan “I didnt have a pace van” M taking the win in a time off 1:30:58, Zak “Did you know I used the big ring” H taking second and Ronnie S taking third.
The first lady of the night was Keri P with a time of 01:56:53 with Lisa M taking second.

Finally but by no means least many thanks to the tea and coffee makers from team Millar who also provided birthday cake for the hungry cyclists (Happy Birthday Sam). Also thanks to Marty Mc our very own quality assurance official who will be handling any appeals regarding drafting behind vans 😉
Next week is the Diamond Hill Climb and give a shout out on the message board if you want to marshal it. We will need two timekeepers.
