Irish National Youth Championships
Last weekend the Irish National Youth Championships took place and our very own Matthew Armstrong flew the Dromara CC flag. His report is below but to say he did us proud is an understatement.
Well Done Matthew and welcome to scratch 😉
Report Below:
I went into the first stage, a 4.8 mile tt with a head wind, with a few nerves but they instantly went away when I started and finished with a reasonable time of 12:26 putting me in fourteenth place.
Next was the road race which was a 33 mile hilly but still very fast course, especially with a few Irish level riders on the front! I managed to sit in the group while others got dropped within the first few laps. I fell behind the now select group of 18 on the climb on the final lap and finished around 20 seconds behind them in 20th place.
Last was the crit around Ballymoney town centre, we had twenty minutes plus three laps to do around the very tight technical circuit with very narrow and tight corners and a slight hill up to the finish. On the last lap there was a fall on the tight corner and I managed to get past it into
Third place with another group following behind on my wheel, four of them then jumped off my wheel and took me on the line but I was very happy with 8th place. This then brought me to joint 10th place overall so I was very pleased with that after an extremely hard weekends racing.
