Dromara CC send team to Newry 3 Day
Newry Wheelers are delighted to promote the 27th Newry 3 day on the weekend of 8th,9th and 10th August.
The stage race which is one of the most popular on the Irish cycling calendar will see over 80 riders compete to add their name to the list of previous winners which is no mean feat. The racing kicks of on Friday night at 7pm in Warrenpoint where the riders will tackle the flat dual carriageway before hitting a stinger of a hill in the form of Grinan road before entering Warrenpoint again for 3 short laps which should entertain the local crowds who will also be out watching the Maiden of mourne festival. The Chain reaction point’s jersey is also up for grabs on this stage and one a lot of riders want, especially the sprinters. Finishing time approxatimelty 8.15/8.30pm.The 1 st stage is generously sponsored by JC Campbell Citroen/Honda in Rostrevor.
After much deliberation from the race committee the team of Nathan M, Gavin M, Zak H & Chris M has been chosen to represent Dromara CC. This team choice has not been easy this year with some very strong candidates looking to be part of this great race. With the results from Thursdays Club League seem to suggest that gettin gon this team is becoming more competitive. Graeme C just missed out on the team but is first reserve.
After the fast stage on Friday night the riders will head to the hills and take on the roads around Hilltown to test the riders climbing skills. This stage will go a long way in deciding the outcome of the yellow spin 11 yellow jersey as well as the FPM polka dot jersey for best climber. Reed Hall is the last big hill of the day before the bunch descends into Hilltown with the race finishing outside the INF hall at 11.45/12 noon approximately.
Saturday afternoon sees the race of truth where riders will test themselves against the clock. This will spilt the riders up and see them settle in their positions for the fight for overall glory. The Time trial takes place at 3.30 from the narrow water castle. This stage will also be a big factor in the destination of the blue youth riders jersey kindly sponsored by Felix O’Hare building contractors.
Sunday is the final and perhaps the Queen stage sponsored by Haldane Fisher, usually the name given to the hardest stage of the race and longest and at 70 mile with 4 Fpm King of the hills included it will be tough. Last year seen the yellow jersey change hands in the final 10 miles which proves how hard this route is. The riders will start from Newry sports centre at 10.30 before heading to Banbridge, castwellan,Rathfriland, Newry,Hilltown,Rathfriland and the finish in Newry at the Mot centre at 1.30 pm approx.
Plenty of places to go support our team. All at Dromara CC wish the boys every success on this weekend. It seems a decent excuse to miss the Hilly.
