Round 19 – Crossgar Road TT – The odd hill or two
When the marshal rota was put up and people were free to choose which TT/Road Races to marshal it was the Crossgar Road time trial that had its quota filled first. So with the Newry 3 day just around the corner we had no problem getting the marshals. The flip side about this is that there was concern that the riders would be few in number. However this was not to be with a great turn out of riders, 36 in total, 32 DCC and 4 guests. A mixture of newcomers (who don’t know the course, but do now!) and nutters who enjoy this type of pain.
The course is not easy on the way out and gets harder on the way back, so was it TT bike or the normal road bike, skin suit or just the normal top, TT bars on the road bike……you get the idea. With Gavin and Chris saving themselves for the weekend it was going to be interesting to see who was ready to take the fastest time of the night. Brendy Du was clearly reading last weeks report and decided to buy some speed with a fancy skin suit for the occasion and also to try and keep with Barry K’s new fashion number. As it turned out this was a wise decision as he took the fastest time in 25:17 and leave Barry searching the data to see where he can find the extra 12 seconds. Conor R had a smashing ride with a time of 26:08 to take the third fastest time and dismiss the myth that TT bikes are useless on this course.
As with every TT there are always races within the race, people trying to get a faster time than their club mate, dad, etc. This week saw the return of Marty M putting down a great time of 27:05 to beat his rival Gary B. Gary I am sure will be offering this sort of motivation to other riders during the year as always 😉
With a great showing from the ladies at the Crossgar road they proved they have plenty of speed with Lisa M producing an awesome 28:16 and Martina with her fancy new steede posting a time of 30:28.
Many thanks to the timekeepers Zak and Nathan and to the marshals at the start finish line – Ronnie and Jonathan McB.
Thanks to the marshals – Gary G, Ivan B, Kevin and Robert McD, Ryan M, Noel G, Chris M.

And finally where would we be without young Martin
Next week is the Harry Ferguson Road Race and many marshals are required so if you havent marshaled then this is a great opportunity to help out.
