Round 17 – Anahilt Road Race
It was a glorious day that led up to the Anahilt Road Race with the temperatures hitting 27 degrees. With the great weather it clearly brought out the great selection of marshals as well as road racers, in fact we even had a guest marshal(thanks Rodney).
With Colin R stepping up to be Chief Marshal and two motorbike riders to shepherd the lead group around the race was set. Group 1 & 2 have merged for the last race and it was decided that this would happen again, Group 3 looked a little depleted since Group 4’s recruitment campaign and finally scratch managed to sign up a few guest racers to make up their numbers.
The handicaps as always had been set by the UCI independent fairy who was pretty close this week to getting it right. Alas Group 1&2 have clearly been learning how to ride together correctly making them much faster as a group and no doubt that will be noted for the next race.
It was Group 1&2 that held off the other groups to line up for a hotly contested sprint to the line. Robert McDonald held off his brother Kevin to take his first race win with Lisa Millar completing the top 3. Michael Hailes and Martina Hawkins grabbed 4th and 5th respectively.
Many thanks to the timekeeping team of Colin R and Kyle I, to Eddie D and the Gibson lads for marshalling and ringing bells and waving flags and of course to the catering duo Sam and Olivia.
Many thanks to the big showing of helpers at corner 1, Sean S, Malcolm M, Chris A, Rodney McC (guest), Neil F, Ronnie S and Raymund M.
Matthew A for keeping an eye on the shops and Marcus M for keeping an eye out at Laurel Road.
Corner 2 – Linda F, Roisin McI, Beverley P and Martin M
Corner 3 – Paddy McD, David H, Paul G, Derek G and Trevor B
Big thanks to the two motorcycle outriders. Great job lads.
