Ben becomes National Champion at XC in Killarney
Last weekend saw Dromara CC gain a new national champion in the XC National championships race which took place in Fossa, Killarney, hosted by Killarney CC. Ben Wilson made the long Journey down and put in an amazing performance in the Under 12 race against very stiff competition to take the win in a thrilling battle to the line.
The race was neck a neck the whole way with Ben, Dean Harvey (XMTB) and Darren Rafferty (Island Wheelers) side by side all through the race, never putting a foot wrong.
Anyone of the three would have been a worthy winner, But it was Ben who saved the best for last taking the win in the sprint finish in the closest category of the day. Well done Ben, a proud day for the club.
Dromara CC also had Bens dad, Brian, representing the club in the Veterans race, putting in a solid performance to come home in 17th place. Barry Kellett was the clubs sole representative in the Elite race, coming in with a 5th place finish.
Meanwhile closer to home, the National Downhill Championships took place on Sunday in Kilbroney park, Rostrevor. Peter Davison took a very respectable 11th place in the Under 16s category. Well done Peter, the only club man brave enough to tackle the terrain.
Many thanks to Sean Rowe for the use of his great shots and Barry for the report.
