Dromara’s Kellet takes Bobby Crilly Victory
It was fine day to be road racing at the Bobby Crilly Memorial Race. The clouds hid the sun but there was very little wind to cause any issues. This race finishes at the top of Divis mountain with the last 150m at 18-20% of a gradient. The good news about this race is that you can be guaranteed it wont be a bunch sprint.
Dromara had BVK, Graham B and Jonathon Mcb in the A4 race, Zak H in the A3 and finally Nathan M & Ronnie S in the A1/A2 race.
All races do a circuit from Nutts Corner to Dundrod and Phoenix CC had a very safely marshalled course which saw all races take a slow start knowing what was coming. The climb starts at Dundrod and with a slight downhill before the final climb up Divis you can be sure to be complaining you should have put on other gear.
In the A4 race it held together until near the top of the climb when Luke Ireland made a break leaving a chasing group of 15 to see who wanted to chase him. As the climb got closer to the top it ratches up significantly and Barry left his final move to the final 100 metres to take the victory. Jonathon and Graham made a superb last climb to both be in the top 15.
With A3 race having to do an extra circuit compared to the A4 boys it wasnt long before Rory Maguire(Phoenix CC) headed the A3 race home with Zak H taking a well deserved 8th place. All that training up Dree Hill clearly paying off for Zak. In the A1/A2 race Nathan was well up in a tight race to the top finally finishing 8th Overall and 2nd place in the A2’s.
