Weekend Update as Dromara CC have a new Champion
Champion of Champions 25 mile Time Trial was also on Sunday and Dromara CC’s very own Keri Parton decided to prove herself over the 25 mile course. This course has been ridden by Chris Boardman in the past who is the current record holder. Keri has been training very hard for this and clearly that hard work has paid off as she was the first Lady home in a time of 1 hour 5 minutes 30 seconds which was only 26 seconds ahead of the second place lady Mary Hunter.
Congratulations Keri if you have any issues dealing with the fame BVK can give you some pointers.
North Down GP
Sunday 8th June thankfully turned out to be the best day of the weekend weather wise which I am sure is why North Down choose to host their Grand Prix. Dromara CC had a large number of participants at the race with a Neil Currie and Stevie Wallace taking on a rather longer A3 race than they would be used too. The A4 race was also one of the longest with 64 miles needing covered to get to the finish line. The race itself was very hectic and clearly no one had realised how long the race was as the field was whittled down to less than 30 riders with Graham B and Jonathan McBride finishing strongly in the top 20.
With the A4 race being so long it was only natural that the main race needed to be longer and it certainly was. Dromara’s leading Junior rider Zak Hanna was back in Dromara colours after competing with the Belgium Project team at the Ras last weekend. The final results of the main race saw Gavin Magowan finish strongly in a chase group behind the winner Frazer Duncan of Dave Kane Cycles. The rest of the dromara men finished strongly in a very competitive race. Our only lady in the womens race Lisa Millar had ridden herself into a winning position but an unfortunate touch of wheels saw Lisa and a few of the other girls crash heavily. Lisa was taken to hospital but I am glad to say nothing was broken and is now at home hopefully with her feet up – All Dromara CC wish her a speedy recovery.
Finally Dromara CC would like to extend our thanks to the NDGP organisers, marshals and helpers who put on an amazing race.
