Tommy Givan Road Race
The evening before the race a certain young man wasnt checking his points score – a top 3 will get you upgraded to A3 and sure you hardly want that. Race day and what is slowly becoming a Dromara cc club race due to the numbers taken part. Maryland Wheelers as always put on a great race which has fast long straights and a few hills thrown in made it tough. In the A4 were Ryan, Johny, Tommy, Gary B, Barry Kellet, Graham B, Richard, Neil(I must not get a top three) C and Graeme C. In the A1/2/3 race was Ronnie , Gavin, Steve Wallace (his first outing in an A3 race) and Zako representing DCC / Cycling Ulster Development. Matthew Armstrong was in the under 16 race.
A4 as usual started off surprisingly quick with Dromara pushing the pace and trying to get away but no one was letting anything go today. Unfortunately Barry crashed on the Anahilt s-bend, he took a puncture and came down quite hard. You know it must be serious when he excepts a lift home (good news is that i hear nothing is broken). The race pace continued and it came down to a group sprint with Neill (I must not get a top 3 place) took second, Graeme C placed an excellent 4th and Graham B completing the top 10. You can check the finish below:
With this result Graeme C and Neill C have now upgraded to A3 and scratch in the club races – Group 4 is feeling very empty.
Brilliant ride from Gavin, bridging across from the A1/2 group to the A3 lads who must have had at least a 2 minute gap going into the last lap. Very impressive leaving the rest of the group behind. Great to see young Matthew A tussling in the Under 16’s race.
