Stevie Baines injured during Tour of Ards | |
Today our mate Stevie Baines (now East Antrim) sustained
a broken pelvis in the closing stages of the Tour of ards and Ronnie
Smyth received bad bruising and 4 stitches to a elbow after being riden
over, not to mention
bike damage. From what we have have heard for most of the distance the pace was steady with six on a break. Then within the last few miles things picked up with the whole of the road being used. Someone clipped Ronnie's rear wheel bringing him down and the following behind him. Stevie was not directly involved but connected by others trying to avoid the pile-up. Stevie was forced over the lough wall landing up to 20 feet below on the rocks. Stevie was air lifted to the royal Victoria hospital where we believe he is being treated for a broken pelvis This is devistating news not only because he will be out of action for not only work but also the Tour of the North which he and the Hairbears have been training so hard for. Stevie has been showing exceptional form setting the fastest time in the first Banbridge 2up TT with a 22:58 for a 10. Wishing you a speedy recovery Stevie, from all at Dromara CC
