Ronnie Smyth Cup Road Races
For 2013 Dromara Cycling Club have been given the opportunity to run their annual open road races on the privately owned motorcycle circuit, Bishopscourt, in Downpatrick. The circuit has recently undergone significant investment to improve the track and facilities and is now one of the top circuits in Ireland. The full circuit is just over 2 miles long and offers a wide expanse of tarmac with sweeping corners. Photos of the circuit can be found on the venue's website here. The full address for the circuit is 29 Lismore Road, Bishopscourt, Downpatrick, BT30 7SY (map link here). There is a full race schedule planned with each race running separately on the course. Race 1 - Masters and women Race 2 - A4 riders Race 3 - A3 riders Race 4 - A1 & A2 riders Sign on will open at 9 am with the first race of the day starting at 10 am. There will be time between races for riders to practice and warm up on the circuit. The venue offers plenty of toilet facilities plus showers. Chip timing will be provided for all races. The races will be run under Cycling Ireland rules. NOTE: This race will NOT be treated as a Crit race, therefore laps cannot be skipped. On the same day the venue owners will be hosting a community fun day which will attract a crowd to the venue. It is proposed that there will be vintage car displays as well as other highlights. For families the club will be setting up a cycling skills area for youth (under 14s) so feel free to come down with your families. Martin |
