Dromara CC Ladies Win Gold Medal In The Ulster Team Time Trial Championships |
18 May 2010 Phoenix CC hosted the Ulster Team Time Trial Championships on Tuesday night at Woodgreen, with three women’s teams in contention. Heather Wilson’s team of herself, Caroline Ryan and Fran Meehan proved the fastest over the 25 miles, also beating some of the men’s teams, finishing 10th overall out of the 16 teams entered. Unfortuunately it was not an Ulster team, so Ulster’s top team and Gold medal winners are Caroline Patterson, Mary Hunter, Maeve Cahill and Val O’Neill from Dromara Cycling Club. Placing third was the composite team of Ballymena Duo Jo- Anne Kee, Maeve Savage and Island Wheelers Sheena O’Neill. FROM CAROLINE "This is such a big achievement for us as this was our first time as a team doing a 25mile time trial at Woodgreen and we all worked really hard together. I think the hardest part of the circuit was going around the roundabouts but we did really well and we couldnt believe it that we had won as we didnt expect it. We decided to do the team time trial for experience and not expecting to get a gold medal, we deserved it and next year we will get a faster time." A big thanks to Phoenix Cycling Club for the promotion of the event and all the teams who made it such a hard fought competition. Well done to Phoenix CC men winning the gold medal.
