Club "Stew Run" 2010 |
Sunday 2 January 2011 The original date for the Dromara Cycling Club Stew Run was Sunday 19 December 2010 but with heavy snow on the ground across Northern Ireland the event was postponed until the new year. On Sunday 2 January 2011, with no snow or ice, the Stew Run finally took place. Just over forty riders, including two guests, gathered before 10 am outside of the Square One pub in the village of Dromara. The riders were able to chose to go with the 'fast group' lead by Derek Hanna or the 'less fast' group lead by Davy Robb. Derek blew the whistle and the riders set off around 10:10 am. Derek's group did a route of approximately 50 miles and Davy's group did around 37 miles. Both groups returned to the Square One pub around 12:30 for some liquid refreshment before the bowls of hot stew were brought out by the hard working staff in the pub. The stew really hit the spot after a cold morning out on the bike with temperatures reaching just 2oC. It also helped to have a roaring fire to thaw out the extremities. Many thanks to Eddie and his staff for looking after us and to Derek for arranging the day. More photos here |
