Dromara Football Club
On
Tuesday evening (15 June 2010) Dromara Cycling Club ran their annual
free children's event at the Dromara Village Football club. This
event had to be postponed from the previous Tuesday due to heavy rain
but this Tuesday was bright and just a little overcast. Even with
the rescheduling it was still great to see almost 60 young people turn
up from the local area for the 6:30 start.
Laid out on
the playing field were 6 stations of timed events including a 50 metre
sprint, limbo bar, stop box, cone chicane, ball and cone challenge and
a new event incorporating a fun ramp. The participants were
issued with a time card to record their time in completing the events
and there were prizes for various age groups and for both male and
female riders. After a break for snacks, while the organisers
were busy adding up all the times, the fun continued with some
sprint races for each age group. Starting with the young ones
aged 3 and 4 the riders sprinted as fast as they could along the
grass to the finish line. The final race had the older
competitors race over a greater distance. After the races there
was a prize giving ceremony with cycling related gifts for the timed
events. Overall it was a very successful evening.
A big thank you to the Dromara Village Football Club for the
use of their grounds and club house.
The event would
not have
been possible without the time volunteered by the club members: Andrew
Wilson, Ann Annett, Anne Maguire, Brendan & Bernie Monaghan, Davy
Robb, Gillian & Michael Armstrong, Ian Proctor, John Clyde, Ross
Galway, Val O'Neill and Trevor Annett
