Dromara Cycling Club have their annual Christmas 'Stew Run' from the village |
Sunday 13 December 2009 Dromara Cycling Club ran their now annual Christmas 'Stew Run' from the County Down village on Sunday 13 December 2009. Gathered in front of the Square One pub/restaurant were 54 well wrapped cyclists braving the cold air with a large selection getting into the Christmas spirit by donning santa hats, santa suits, fairy lights, tinsel and one rider, John Ruddell (Ards CC) dressed up as a dog. The event was organised by club member Derek Hanna who set about getting the riders into one of two groups. The 'A' group who headed towards Ballynahinch left just around 10:15 with the 'B' group leaving around 10:45 and taking the shorter loop heading out towards Seaforde. The 'A' group returned to the village around 12:15 and headed into the Square One pub for refreshments and, of course, the hot bowl of stew. The 'B' group started to arrive around 12:45 and joined the 'A' group in the bar. The owner Eddie Doyle, also a club member, kindly supported this event by providing the stew to the many cyclists. His support was much appreciated especially when the hardworking staff were going around offering second helpings!! All in all a very successful day. It was great to see so many riders out enjoying winter cycling including some new members to the club. Many thanks to Derek and to Eddie and the staff at Square One for a great day.
