Saturday 7th June Dromara Hill Climb The Dromara Hill Climb, Sponsored by The Square One, [Plough Bar] will be held at Begney Hill Dromara. Parking at church car park, on Begney Hill at 18.30 pm. The challenge involved a 0.21 mile climb up Begney hill Dromara combined with a 0.18 mile freewheel down the other side to the finish. Nearing the finish the road starts to rise again which last year caused problems for some of the young riders. As a result this year it was decided to let them pedal on the decent in what ever gear the crossed the stop pedal line at the top. Tactics come in as the speed carried from the top of the hill is crucial meaning an all out attack from the off could mean crawling exhausted over the top. Tuesday 10th June Children's Gymkhana The ever popular Children's Cycling Gymkhana, will be held at Dromara football club at 6.30 pm, Sponsored by Versatile Windows NI of Ballynahinch. Trevor, Martin & Derek are running the event. Prizes will be given to the 1st boy and girl in each of four different ages groups. Last year the event was a resounding success with around 80 children taking part, with all sorts of bikes including tiny trikes.. It was a sunny warm evening with the start time of 7 pm suiting all for a fun filled family evening. Gymkhana is a strange name for this cycling challenge! The event comprised 5 separate timed courses cumulating into a total time. The Children were separated into 4 age groups, under 6, under 8, under 11, and under 14. The five timed events were, A: 50 metre sprint, B: stop box for 2 seconds, with a 3 second penalty if they touched the ground, C: slalom though cones, D: limbo under a suspended pole, E: Lift and place a small ball between cones, with out stopping. Thursday 12th June 10 mile TT Dromara Cycling Club are holding a 10 mile time trail on the Moira Road Hillsborough, just off the A1 dual carriage way. The start is at 7 pm sharp with each rider setting off at one minute intervals. Cycling Ireland rules allow non club riders to take part in two events, on a come and try basis. So if you enjoy cycling come along and have a go against the clock. Over sixteen's only and helmets must be worn. Saturday 14th June Emma McMullan Open Road Race The Emma McMullan and R S Contracts Open Road Races. In 2008 Dromara Cycling Club will be holding two open road races open to cats, 1,2,3 Vets, Ladies and Juniors. The races are sponsored by KJM Electrics and RS Building Contracts of Ballynahinch.
