Dromara Cycling Club's "Coastal" is an annual event for many cyclists.  From the leisure cyclist to the more focused fitness or club rider the coastal has something for everyone.  Two distances are offered, 60 miles and 80 miles, starting from Dromara Football club located on the Rathfriland Road, Dromara on Sunday 9 May 2010.  

Sign on will open at 8:45 am and the event will start at 9:30 am after a quick photo call.  The tour offers a great day out with like minded people going at a pace that suits you.  Along the way you can take in the fabulous scenic route along the south Down coastline and the shores of Strangford Lough.  There is a food stop arranged in Strangford where cyclists can eat and chat before heading back onto the road again.  Just outside Quoile riders can decide which route to take back.  Either they can continue enjoying the coastal scenery and go the longer route or take the more direct route back to Dromara via Ballynahinch (see route maps below).  Once back in Dromara there is another opportunity to eat and a chance to relax amongst friends.

The club has been running this "Coastal" for over 10 years with the 2009 tour being the most successful with over 200 riders enjoying the day.  This year we will have motorcycle outriders and a broom wagon.  All participants will receive a wrist band giving a telephone number in case of emergencies.

The fee for the event will be £10 (€10) for CTC or Cycling Ireland members.  For those who are not members (and therefore do not have insurance cover) there is an additional fee of £1 (€1) for a one-day third party cover insurance.  You also have the option of taking out an annual leisure licence from Cycling Ireland which will give you personal accident cover for the rest of the year.  Price for the leisure (non-competition) licence is £9 (if you have not been a member of Cycling Ireland in the past) or £27 if you were a member before.  This is under the condition that you also sign up to a cycling club.  For more information on the Coastal tour or about Cycling Ireland licences please contact Trevor Annett, the club secretary, on 07714 382158 or email trevor@dromaracc.co.uk
