Dromara
Cycling Club are committed to encouraging young people into the sport
of cycling. From the age of 6 riders can take part in off-road
events and compete in their age categories which start with the under
8s, and then continue with the under 10s, under 12s, under 14s and
under 16s. Riders can take part in competitive road events from
aged 10 (under 12s) and, as per the off-road events, the structure of
the event would be suited to their ability. Dromara CC are proud
to provide an environment which is both safe and enjoyable for the
young riders and in which they are able to learn more about the sport
from the other club members. Parents are encouraged to come along
and ask questions as well as to accompany their children
especially on their first time trials and road races. The club
has a dedicated Children's Officer and has over 20 club members vetted
through the Access NI scheme. In line with our Code of Practice
and Child Protection Policy young people aged under 18 are not named on
photographs without authorisation. Children's Gymkhana For a number of years Dromara Cycling Club have organised a Children's Gymkhana as part of the Dromara Village Festival in June. Local children aged 2 to 16 are invited along to the football club in Dromara to take part in a free cycling event where their cycle skills are tested in various timed events. At thee end of the event prizes are given out to the fastest riders in each of the age groups.
