League - Round 8 10 mile time trial - Spa - Seaforde (map) 23 May 2013 It was a return to the Spa lake course for Round 8 of the Dromara Cycling Club league which took place on 23 May 2013. The temperature was well down at 5°C but if felt more like 2°C. Add to that there was a very strong wind which was a tail wind on the way out and then a tough head wind on the way back. Stories at the finish line were all about the drop in average speeds after the turn in Seaforde. With tough conditions there was a plentiful supply of marshals and timekeepers. We even had a spare car load of members available to help out if needed (Chris, Stephen, Tommy and David). First rider away was Zak Hanna and he was followed by Paul Mawhirt 30 seconds later. The remaining 18 riders set off at 30 second intervals. Fastest on the night was Gavin Magowan on his time trial bike in a time of 24 minutes and 7 seconds. Second quickest was Anthony Quinn on his road bike in a time of 25:11. Third quickest was Trevor Wright on his time trial bike in a time of 26:36 with Conor Rice, also on his time trial bike, just 12 seconds behind Trevor. Well done to youth rider Matthew Armstrong on his first time trial. Many thanks to the timekeepers and to marshals. Timekeepers: Barry Kellett and Ryan Calvert. Timekeeper's assistant: Graham Beckett Marshals: Raymund Martin, Ronnie Smyth and Neil Fitzsimons. Photographs and report: Martin Grimley |
