League - Round 2 10 mile 2-up time trial, Lurgan Road, Dromore (map) 5 April 2012 Round 2 of Dromara CC's club league was the first of the 2-up time trials where riders went off in pairs to cover the 10 mile distance working together to get the best time. The club have two of these events, back to back, with the fastest pairing winning the Versatile Windows trophy. These events bring in the strategy side to the sport with the riders having to work out the best balance for time spent on the front of the pairings to maximize speed. The timekeepers then record the time when the second rider crosses the line. It was a blowy night on the Lurgan Road and Phil O'Neill and David Chambers were kept busy getting riders signed on, put in order and sorting out marshals. Fastest pairing on the night were last year's trophy winners Gavin and Chris Magowan who completed the distance in 23 minutes and 39 seconds. Visitors Tony Hare and John Kernaghan teamed up well to produce the second fastest time of 24:08. Only 2 seconds off their time was the strong duo of Ronnie Smyth and Marcus Magowan. An inter club pairing of Aaron McGrady (DCC) and Jeffrey Torrens Spence (Phoenix CC) set the fouth fastest time of 24:26. In total 42 riders took part. Many thanks to the marshals and timekeepers. The second of the 2-up time trials will take place next Thursday on Downpatrick Road outside of Ballynahinch. See website for details (www.dromaracc.co.uk).
