League - Round 1 5 mile time trial, Dundrum Road, Dromara (map) 29 March 2012 Thursday 29 March 2012 saw the launch of this year's club league for Dromara Cycling Club with a 'warm up' event which took place on the Dundrum Road outside the village of Dromara. This was a one way 5 mile time trial and it allowed riders a chance to stretch their legs and for new people to try the event of time trialling. The night was bright but cold and this first round attracted 40 riders including a few leisure cyclists who came along to try out the competitive side of the sport. As this was a 'warm up event' all the riders received 25 points towards the overall league with the timekeepers receiving 27 points and the marshals 20 points. The league table will be produced periodically throughout the season. Fastest on the night was Ronnie Smyth who won the 2011 league and finished this evening as the only rider under 12 minutes. Behind Ronnie were the three Magowan's, Chris finished ahead of Gavin with namesake Marcus finishing fourth, all three under 13 minutes. John Clyde, Anthony Quinn, Barry Kellett and Neill Currie finished in that order and all under 14 minutes. Many thanks to the marshals and timekeepers. The first of the 2-up time trials will take place next Thursday on the Lurgan Road, Dromore. See website for details (www.dromaracc.co.uk). Timekeepers: Phil O'Neill and Jonathan McBride Marshals: John Shanks, Stephen Kelly and Alwynne Shannon Report: Martin Grimley |
