League - Round 24 Hill Climb, Begney Hill Road (map) 8 September 2011 The final round of the 2011 club league took place on Thursday night, 8 September 2011 at the Begney Hill Road in Dromara village. This final event was a short, sharp hill climb around ¼ mile which the club have been running for many years. This was the 24th round of the league and attracted 22 competitors including young Ben Wilson trying out his first club road event. Zak Hanna was the first rider off and set the mark at just under 1 minute 15 seconds. Gavin Magowan was fourth away and first to beat that time with a time of just under 1 minute 5 seconds. This remained the time to beat until relative newcomer to the club, Aaron McGrady, reached the top in just under 1 minute 3 seconds. This was not beaten until the last rider, Ronnie Smyth went. Ronnie has won the cup associated with this hill climb (Plough Bar trophy) for the last 3 years and repeated that win in an impressive time of 1 minute 1 second. Eight year old Ben completed the climb in just over 2 minutes. A star for the future. Well done to all riders and many thanks to the timekeeper and to the marshals for keeping the riders safe. Next Thursday night starts the winter training runs for both road and mountain bike. See the message board for details.
