League - Round 22 10 mile time trial, Downpatrick Road, Ballynahinch (map) 25 August 2011 Twenty six riders gathered at the Downpatrick Road just outside Ballynahinch for the penultimate round of the club's Thursday night league. With Martin taking himself off on holiday the organisation of the day fell to Colin Roy and Philip Boyle to get the riders in place and away. With fading light the riders were set off at 30 second intervals with first away Paul Gick, the first to battle the strong headwinds. Fastest on the night was Ronnie Smyth in a time of 23 minutes 45 seconds with his main rival, Gavin Magowan, just 13 seconds behind him. There were more strong riders from Rodney Stewart (3rd fastest), Marcus Magowan (4th), John Clyde (5th), Chris Magowan (6th) and Neil Fitzimons (7th). Aaron McGrady had his second event for the club and his first time trial and finished 10th fastest. Another newcomer Martin McAnulty enjoyed his first time out with the club to complete the distance in 31m 28s. Taking account of each rider's average time for the same distance, the calculations were made to see who had improved their time the most. Congratulations to Martin Marner who improved on his average by 2½ minutes and took the full 40 points for this round. Damian Kent had the next biggest improvement with just over 1½ minutes on his average. Ted McKibbin, Rodney Stewart, John Clyde and Conor Rice all improved their times by over 1 minute. Well done to all riders and many thanks to the timekeepers and marshals. Timekeepers: Colin Roy and Philip Boyle Marshals: Gary Gibson, Stephen Younge Report: Martin Grimley |
