10 mile circuit time trial - Annahilt triangle (map)

Round 7 of Dromara Cycling Club's Thursday night league was a circuit time trial of 10 miles around the Annahilt triangle, starting on the Ballycreen Road and finishing on the Magheraknock Road in Ballynahinch. The circuit style TT meant that there was a need for an increased number of marshals with 10 helping to look after the three major junctions. There had been rain on and off throughout the day leading up to the event with rain at the sign on. This had lead to a reduction in the numbers taking part, however it was good to see 25 out braving the elements. Thankfully the heavy rain cleared for the start of the TT allowing the riders the opportunity to set some of the quickest times this season.
Quickest on the night was on form rider Ronnie Smyth who was fastest in Rounds 3 and 6 previously. Davy McKnight was second fastest with Darren Weir third. Marcus Magowan was fourth with Nigel Sudlow fifth fastest on the night.
When the times were adjusted, using the riders' individual time handicaps, the winner of the event was Nigel Sudlow who had improved the most (2 minute 24 seconds) compared to his time handicap and won the maximum 40 points towards the overall league. Next was Robert McDonald who had improved by 2 minutes and 2 seconds on his handicap time and won 39 points with Massismo Manganaro taking 38 points after improving his time by 1 minute 37 seconds. The two women taking part, Caroline Patterson and Val O'Neill, finished only 25 seconds apart with Caroline fastest on the night.
Many thanks to timekeepers Davy Robb and Trevor Annett and to all the marshals for keeping the riders safe. The next round is the first of our 16 mile time trials on Thursday 20 May 2010 starting at 6:50 pm, from the Grosvenor's Gate in Hillsborough and turning in Ballynahinch.
