League - Round 21 10 mile time trial, Downpatrick Road, Ballynahinch (map) 19 August 2010 Round 21 of Dromara Cycling Club's Thursday night league took place on the Downpatrick Road just outside Ballynahinch. The thirty riders who signed on were greeted to a wet night with some strong cross winds as they completed the 10 mile time trial. The riders were very appreciative of the marshals and time keepers who gave up their time to get soaked while looking after the safety of their fellow club members. First away on the night was the youngest rider Connor Mallon who was followed 30 seconds later by the oldest member out tonight, Raymund Martin. The only non-club member out this evening was Stephen McCambley (Castlereagh CC) who started third and he was followed by the youth riders Zak Hanna and Christopher Weir. There were two women taking part tonight, Caroline Patterson and Mary Hunter. Also out was our newest member Carolan Carvill who has just turned 15. Fastest on the night was David McKnight who showed great strength in the poor weather conditions to finish in 23 minutes 36 seconds, his fastest time this year and 10 seconds ahead of Ronnie Smyth. In the season long battle between brothers Gavin and Chris Magowan it was Chris who was strongest tonight finishing just 3 seconds faster than Gavin. Marcus Magowan finished fifth just 2 seconds faster than Damien McDonald. Caroline Patterson was the fastest of the women with Ryan Mallon the fastest of the youth riders. Well done to Carolan who finished in a great time of 30m 40s. Comparing tonight's times to each of the club member's average times it was shown that Paul Jess's finishing time was the one with the biggest increase over his average time (1 minute 35 seconds faster than his average time). Second was Stephen Younge with youth riders Zak Hanna and Christopher Weir finishing third and fourth in the time handicapped table. Craig McDowell was the only other rider to finish over a minute quicker than his average time. Many thanks to all the timekeepers and marshals. The next round will be an Aussie pursuit at the Annahilt triangle starting at 06:45 pm. Timekeeper: Trevor Annett & Nigel Sudlow Marshals: Darren Weir, Brian McGrath, James Gilpin and Ivan Bradford.
