Dromara CC Club League - Round 13
16 mile time trial - Ballynahinch - Hillsborough (map)

24 June 2010

Round 13 of Dromara Cycling Club's Thursday night league seen a change to the original schedule when the 16/25 mile time trial on the Banbridge Road out of Castlewellan, was changed when word of a band parade in Moneymore came to light.  Instead we went back to the Hillsborough Road in Ballynahinch  to complete the second stage of 16 mile time trials this time from Ballynahinch to Hillsborough and back.  The change of venue was communicated to nearly all those taking part by a handful missed the update and ended up waiting on the Banbridge Road wondering where everyone else was.  Thanksfully they made it over to Ballynahinch in time to take part in the event.

Thirty riders signed up to do this round among them three guests from other clubs.  First away was Massimo Manganaro who was hoping to keep up his steady improvement to get maximum points again.  Going off one minute behind Massimo was Ivan Bradford with first of the guest riders, Stephen McCamley (Castlereagh CC) heading off behind Ivan.  The rest of the riders were set off at the one minute interval including the only woman to take part this evening, Caroline Patterson.

Fastest on the night was Ronnie Smyth who completed the 16 mile distance in 36 minutes and 17 seconds.  This was just over a minute quicker than Davy McKnight who had a time of 37m 44s.  Setting a great time tonight was Chris Magowan who was third fastest in a time of 38m 13s, seven seconds quicker than Darren Weir and 48 seconds fastest than his brother Gavin.  Simon Welby was sixth fastest with Damien McDonald seventh and Marcus Magowan eighth.  Caroline set an excellent time of 43m 54s and the only junior rider was Ryan Mallon who set a time of 45m 44s.

The times set tonight over the 16 mile distance were then calculated to a 10 mile distance then each rider has his/her own time handicap taken off this time to see who had made up the biggest gain on his/her average time.  Masssimo Manganaro continued his rapid improvement by still improving his average time by over 3.5 minutes despite his average reducing each week.  Chris Magowan knew that his time tonight was a real improvement and it showed when his time handicap was applied, Chris improving by exactly 2 minutes on his average.  Darren Weir set the third biggest time improvement with Caroline setting the fourth biggest.

See Time Handicap List below.

Many thanks to timekeepers and the marshals.  Round 14 is next Thursday (1 July 2010) and will be a 10 mile time trial on the Killyleagh Road in   Downpatrick starting at 6:50 pm.
